DNC Sues Trump Over Illegal Executive Order Threatening Free and Fair Elections

We know there's a lot of news happening right now, so we wanted to make sure you didn't miss this, Emily.

Two weeks ago, Trump signed an executive order claiming that he gets to decide how independent agencies like the Federal Election Commission (FEC) interpret the law. The FEC, which Congress created after Watergate to regulate how money is raised and spent in federal elections, was designed to be bipartisan and insulated from the political whims of the White House.

In this country, we are guaranteed fair elections with impartial referees — not a system where Trump can hand down his preferred campaign rules from his perch in the White House. This executive order is a grave threat to this guarantee.

The DNC is fighting back. Alongside the DCCC and DSCC, we've filed a lawsuit against Trump to stop his hostile takeover of the FEC.

For the future of our democracy, it's absolutely critical that we not cede the institutions that safeguard our elections to Trump and his MAGA Republican allies. That means using every tool at our disposal — including aggressively confronting Trump's illegal actions in the courts — to defend voters' right to free and fair elections.

This isn't a fundraising email. Instead, I want to take a minute to share an update on what Democrats are doing, the DNC's role in this fight, and how you can get involved right now.

Look, we're all seeing what's happening: Prices are going up, confidence in the economy is tanking, and a Trump Recession is looming. I was just in Wisconsin and saw eggs being sold for $10.49 (seriously). At the same time, Donald Trump is letting unelected billionaire Elon Musk rip apart the country, fire our veterans, and threaten Social Security. And if that's not enough, House Republicans just voted to jeopardize health care for millions of people and make it harder for families to put food on the table — all to fund Trump's massive tax handout to billionaires.

Democrats are fighting back — taking legal action against Trump and Musk where possible, voting against Trump's extreme nominees and legislation, blocking Musk's DOGE from accessing sensitive data about millions of Americans, and supporting leaders and organizations at the state and local level to protect people in our communities.

But the truth is that we have a lot more work to do to rebuild trust in our Party and show Americans that Democrats are on their side.

That starts with showing up in every community and making our case, listening to people like you, and organizing year-round so that Democrats can truly make an impact everywhere, in all 3,244 counties, and in red, blue, and purple states alike. I've already begun traveling across the country to fight for upcoming elections, knock doors, and mobilize a grassroots movement.

If we can do this together, we'll lay the groundwork we need to win local and statewide elections this year, take back Congress in 2026, and ultimately, kick Republicans out of the White House in 2028.

That's the DNC's job, and that's what my team and I are hard at work every day. I'm asking for you to stay involved, too — here are two ways you can make an impact right now:

Make calls to voters in Wisconsin. There are critical elections happening here in just a few weeks, and of course, Elon Musk has already gotten involved. You can help us stop Musk from buying our courts by using this link.
