Emily, Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. Now, the entire government is shut down on their watch. Here's how we got here: Republicans put forward a government funding bill that failed to protect millions of Americans from cuts to their health care. So congressional Democrats fought back. They voted against it. Democrats are doing the job they were elected to do: fight for their constituents, work to lower costs, and protect necessities like health care.
