the folks who want to strip away voting rights:

Let's elect Democrats up and down the ballot who will stop the assaults on our right to vote.
American Possibilities
Folks --

I've said it before. But I still can't believe we've found ourselves in a place where we're in a battle for voting rights in 2018.

That this is happening 53 years after the Voting Rights Act? It seems impossible. But it's not.

We're fighting in Iowa, where Republicans are racing to push a discriminatory voter ID law through the courts before this November's election.

We're fighting in North Dakota, where they're asking a judge to reduce the kinds of ID that Native Americans can legally use to vote.

We're fighting in Ohio, where the Supreme Court just ruled in favor of a law that will let the state kick thousands of voters off their rolls this fall -- based on their past voting frequency.

And you know what President Trump's political appointees have done about this assault on our rights? Sided with the folks preventing our citizens from voting. They've broken their contract with the American people.

But you can fight back. Chip in $3 or more to American Possibilities to elect Democrats up and down the ballot this fall -- help me put leaders in office who will stop these assaults on our right to vote.

Folks, it wasn't always this way. When we were in the White House, we treated the protection of voting rights as a solemn promise to the American people.

It was the right thing to do. It was the only way to move forward. Too many people over too many years have given too much of themselves for us to accept anything less than full equality at the ballot box.

But since the Supreme Court ripped the heart out of the Voting Rights Act, states have had a field day with voter suppression: Passing restrictive voter ID laws. Getting rid of common-sense policies like same-day voter registration and early voting on the weekend. Fighting automatic voter registration bills across the country.

And it's all aided and abetted by this administration.

But here's what gives me hope. Our opponents are doing this for a reason: They are deathly afraid of what happens when they can't keep us from the ballot box. They know if we show up, they can't win. So we can never back down, we can never give in, we can never be silenced, and we can never give up.

So it's time to let them know they will NOT win -- we will not be stopped, folks. Let's make it easier, not harder, for all of us to exercise our God-given right to vote -- no matter what we look like, where we came from, or who we worship. And let's do it starting November 6, 2018.

When you chip in $3 or more to American Possibilities, your donation goes right to electing Democrats -- this year -- who will do the right thing on voting rights.

We've won this fight once. I know we can win it again.

Thanks for standing with me,

Joe

zero safe races for Republicans

American Possibilities
Folks—

Republicans just spent millions of dollars on a special election for a Congressional district in Ohio that President Trump won by 11 points. The Republican National Committee dropped in to open two extra field offices. The president showed up for a last-minute, prime-time rally to boost turnout.

Now, it's two days after the vote, and we still don't know the final outcome.

Every single one of us ought to look at that result and realize what's possible over the next 89 days. Republicans currently hold 68 seats that lean more Democratic than the Ohio 12th. If we win more than a third of those seats this November, we take back the House.

Simple as that, folks.

So I'm asking you to chip in $3 to make sure that we can help as many of these candidates compete as possible.

Here are just a few examples:

A few weeks ago, I announced my endorsement of Debbie Mucarsel-Powell from Florida — at the recommendation of Michael from Redland. She's running for Congress in a Republican-held district that went for Hillary Clinton by 16 points.

And we introduced you to Abby Finkenauer, who is running for Congress in Iowa. We endorsed her after a recommendation from John in Poweshiek. Her district went for Trump by just four points — after voting for President Obama in 2012 and 2008.

We also told you about Xochitl Torres Small, who is running for Congress in New Mexico. We endorsed her after a recommendation from Mary in Socorro. This race might be a tougher fight — her district went for President Trump by 10 points. But she is more than ready for that challenge. Given everything we know about this year's campaign landscape, I'm glad I'm in her corner for this one.

So far this year, together, we've endorsed 55 candidates, running in races up and down the ballot. And we aren't finished yet.

These are elections we can win, folks. You can help make sure we do. And you can do it right now.

Chip in $3 right now to show that this fall, all bets are off. There are no safe races for Republicans in 2018. Because the American people are showing up like never before.

on the notion of citizenship:

American Possibilities
Hi folks—

I had the chance to catch up with an old friend Monday.

Barack and I met for lunch at Dog Tag Bakery in Washington, DC — a great local outfit that helps veterans and their families gain valuable entrepreneurial experience and earn a certificate in business administration. They also make a mean ham sandwich.

I wanted to share a little bit about what Barack and I talked about — because I think it's pertinent for all of us: We had a nice little discussion about what it means to be a vital participant in democracy.

And how it starts with exercising your God-given right to have a say. It starts with voting.

Join Barack and me, and millions of your fellow citizens, and make a commitment to vote this fall.

It's about more than that, too. It's helping your elderly neighbor out with her trash. Reading out loud at a children's hospital. Helping to clean up your local highway in your free time. Or even simply patronizing a local business doing good work for the community — a place like Dog Tag Bakery.

Citizenship is a sacred duty — something we must live up to every day. Evident in how we treat each other, how and whether we stand up for each other — and yes, even in how we disagree with each other. It's about fellowship.

I know it seems like we're hopelessly divided — like we're stuck in a political death match that we just can't get out of.

But we're better than this.

I've always believed that we are strongest when we are One America.

Rich, poor, middle class. Black, white, Hispanic. Gay, straight, transgender. Folks like my family that came to this country a while ago, and the new immigrant coming today. My grandkids — and the Dreamer who sits next to them in the classroom.

That's who we've always been, and who we can become again.

Recommit to that founding principle, and let me know you'll vote this fall.

We'll be in touch along the way with reminders, and share some more of the leaders who are inspiring us all around the country.

But in the meantime, go say hello to your neighbor. I mean it. That's what this is all about.

Thank you.
