Taking a moment this Labor Day
| | | Friends, Labor Day offers us a chance not only to mark the end of summer, but also to celebrate the American labor movement. The working people of America, both organized and unorganized, have been the backbone of our economy and sustained prosperity as a nation. It is critical today that we don’t forget their sacrifices or the continued need for our government to pursue policies that are fair and empower these Americans. One person who has never forgotten this lesson is Joe Biden. There are few legislators with a more distinguished record of supporting organized labor and worker rights than the Vice President. Just a snapshot of his actions: - In March 2014, Biden issued a weekly address from the White House where he advocated for raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10.
- Earlier this year, Joe was awarded the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation’s 2015 Green Jobs Champion Award for being a leader who tirelessly fights to protect the environment, for the interests of working families and to grow America’s economic competitiveness.
- Joe has consistently been a supporter of extending unemployment benefits for American workers devastated by previous economic downturns.
At a Labor Day event in Detroit last year, Joe said: "Maybe instead of cutting your state tax, we should be building infrastructure in this country — roads, bridges, ports. Organized labor is a critical part of the workforce. And as my dad used to say: 'Joey, your job is about a lot more than a pay check. It's about your dignity. It's about your place in the community.'" It is clear that we need someone who truly understands the importance and value of American labor in the White House – Joe has worked tirelessly to defend our rights his entire career. If you stand with Joe on labor, please take a moment to sign our petition. We hope you have a safe holiday with your families.
