step back for a moment, folks

American Possibilities
Folks—

I had a grandfather from Scranton; his name was Ambrose Finnegan. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about one of the lessons he used to share.

"Joey," he'd tell me, "there's a middle class in America for one reason — the organized labor movement."

That's exactly right.

The labor movement is why we have a minimum wage in this country. It's why we have the five-day work week. It's why we have worker safety standards. It's why we no longer have young children working in mills and factories and coal mines.

So if we want to honor that tradition — and build on it going forward — we need to make sure we're doing all we can to elect a group of leaders who will make worker's rights a priority in the years to come.

Today, the labor movement is under threat. Our country's unions aren't being treated fairly by our elected officials. They're not getting a fair shake.

In fact, Republicans are actively working to erode their power and limit their ability to stand up for workers — all while claiming they're standing up for the right to work.

Thankfully, this fall, we have a chance to elect a new generation of policymakers who can reverse that trend.

The organized labor movement is all about fairness. They're all about decency. They're all about leaving no one behind — and realizing there are bigger responsibilities than one's own self-interest.

And we need elected officials who embody those ideals — who keep faith with working folks who just want a decent job they can raise a family on. So chip in $3 to American Possibilities to help us put a few more people like that into office:

Thank you,

Joe

P.S. — I spent some time on Monday at the Labor Day parade in Pittsburgh, and we made a quick video. Take a moment to check it out, then share it.
