Here's what you need to pay attention to: | Hi Emily, We just wanted to make sure this major deadline is on your radar. Election Day is in one month. We know elections outside of presidential years might not be top of mind for a lot of folks, but that's exactly what makes them so important.
Here's what's at stake across the country next month: In Virginia and New Jersey: In both states, the governorship and other statewide and municipal offices are up for election. Keeping the governor's seat in New Jersey blue and flipping the governor's seat in Virginia will be imperative to ensuring that state leadership can protect Virginians and New Jerseyans against even more harm from the Trump administration. In California: Proposition 50 — or the Election Rigging Response Act — is on the ballot this November as a defense against Trump's efforts to rig next year's midterms. This legislation would counter Republicans' efforts to redraw the Texas congressional map. Passing this is key to defending our democracy. In Pennsylvania: On Election Day, voters will decide whether or not to retain their state Supreme Court justices for another 10-year term. These justices will continue to issue consequential rulings on issues that impact Pennsylvanians directly — from abortion funding to gerrymandering — and it is critical that justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht all remain on the bench. At the DNC, we know there is no such thing as an off year. The outcome of November's elections will have a meaningful impact on people's lives. As the organization best positioned to distribute resources where they're most needed, we're heavily investing in all of these states' Democratic Parties to support on-the-ground organizing, reach voters, and ensure as many people as possible know what's at stake this fall.
