Here is the situation:
After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, Tennessee’s Republican lawmakers swiftly moved to divide the state’s lone Democratic and Black-majority district into three red-leaning districts.
As far as I'm concerned, they are backdooring racism through politics. Justin Peason is running to stop that extreme agenda in its tracks.
Justin is a principled leader running in one of those new districts to ensure Tennesseans have the representation they deserve. Republicans are trying to make sure he has a tough fight in these next two months, so that is why I am asking you to support his campaign today.
Listen, Emily. We’ve got to fight fire with fire.
These folks are playing to win, so we need to play to win too. They’re ruthless, so we need to be ruthless too.
That means we need to take on these tough races and give them everything we’ve got.

Terrible timing

Emily, I have to be honest with you. The reality of having an August primary election date is not great. It’s pretty terrible timing for a campaign powered 100% by people like you. Let me explain. For the past few months, we’ve been running ads, making tight budget decisions, and relying on members of our grassroots team to power us through the final stretch of the primary campaign. We were facing tens of millions in outside spending against us. We couldn’t afford to play it safe. So, to put it bluntly, we practically drained our bank account leading up to August 4th. We made it through the primary, but that’s only half the battle. The general election is here, and Mike Rogers has $51 million backing him to blanket the airwaves with misleading attack ads.
