Athletes tend to be a superstitious bunch. My “thing” is a lucky number. It’s four. In college, I was a four-time team MVP and four-time All-American athlete. And get this: my first State House campaign began on the 4th of July, 2022. It’s been a hell of a four years, too. In that time, I won two elections deep in the heart of Trump country and a hard-fought U.S. Senate primary. If we win Iowa’s open Senate seat this November, that’ll be — you guessed it — victory #4. We want leaders who fight
Emily —
This month, I went to Louisiana to uplift Democrats in the South. As I have traveled the country, people are saying they want leaders who fight.
Please take a moment to watch what I think is next for the Democratic Party:
We do not want leaders supporting a broken status quo or backed by millions in dark money.
We want leaders who are backed by moral conviction.
So in this fight, we need to get comfortable with having a certain kind of ruthlessness.
I do not mean ruthlessness like the cruelty they show.
I mean the kind that is uncompromising in its impatience with injustice, that shows no mercy against corruption, and that fights back hard when they threaten the power of the people.
That is the attitude that we must take in this moment.
