Nor is he here to soak up the local culture. National Republicans put him on a plane to my hometown of Council Bluffs with orders to save Iowa’s open Senate seat. I’ll explain why they’re so rattled in just a second. But Vance’s visit will bring a ton of scrutiny to Iowa. So it’s no big mystery why Vance is coming here. It’s because his billionaire bosses are terrified that their grip over Iowa is slipping — and with it, their narrow Senate majority. But most of all, they’re terrified that a guy like me — a guy without family connections, from a working-class background, who’s fought and scraped for every ounce of success he’s had — could soon be rolling down the halls of power.
