But there’s some place else that needs our attention, that is going to be essential to building the infrastructure we need to continue winning elections now and for decades to come: the South. Southern states are some of the fastest-growing states in the country, but they’re also living under some of the most egregious voting rights abuses in the country. Since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in its Callais ruling, states like Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana have raced to redraw and approve maps that would give Republicans an unfair advantage in this year’s fight to win the House. Emily, organizing, investing, and fighting to protect voting rights in the South is already a major part of our strategy this year and will be essential to the work we have in the years ahead of us. Since the Callais decision, the DNC has contacted over 140K Louisiana voters with voter education information, sent over 62K texts into Mississippi to ensure likely Democratic voters’ registrations are up to date, and helped the Tennessee Democratic Party raise money for things like volunteer recruitment. We’ve also made historic investments in every state — red and blue alike — and we’re working overtime to organize everywhere so we can help Democrats win up and down the ballot this year and beyond.
