Emily, Just hours after being sworn in as president, Donald Trump pardoned more than 1,500 people who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6. That includes protesters who violently attacked police officers. It includes one person who wore a "Camp Auschwitz" hoodie to the insurrection. It includes the former leader of the neo-fascist Proud Boys group. These pardons are dangerous. They are Trump's attempt to normalize political violence and attacks on our democracy. And they make clear that in this moment, we need a Democratic Party that can not only stand up to Trump and defend our democracy, but build the long-term infrastructure we'll need to win back Congress in 2026 and the White House in 2028.
