When I was a Senator, I used to take a 250-mile round trip commute by train every day back and forth between Wilmington and Washington, so I could tuck my boys in at night and see them get up in the morning.
As I rode on Amtrak each night on my way home, I’d look out the window and see the flickering lights on the homes lining the streets of small towns and cities, and I’d think about what those families were discussing around the kitchen table.
How are we going to pay the heating bills?
What will we do if our employer eliminates our health care?
Are we going to be able to afford college tuition?
We both know that Donald Trump has never considered the tough questions that working American families have to ask themselves each night.
He simply doesn’t care. Even during a global pandemic, when the questions have only gotten more difficult.
As your president, I give you my word as a Biden that addressing the real issues facing you and your family will be my top priority.
I’ll never forget where I came from, or the hard decision my father had to make to move our family from Pennsylvania to Delaware to find work. I know that many families across the country have had to face the same struggles.
But, Donald Trump doesn’t understand this at all. He’s not here to make life less difficult for others. He’s here to make life better for himself.
That’s what’s at stake in this election. It’s Scranton vs. Park Avenue, and I’m going to give this final week everything I’ve got to make sure that, come January 20, 2021, the White House works for people on Main Street again, not just Wall Street.
