I believe that when Democrats lay the groundwork, and compete everywhere, we can pull off the unimaginable. We saw it in November when a record 81 million people voted for President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris and we saw it again just this month when Georgia flipped the Senate.
Now, I am honored that President-elect Biden has asked me to lead the Democratic National Committee -- and as one of President-elect Biden’s strongest supporters, I wanted to write to you right away.

I'm no stranger to the struggles so many Americans are facing. As the son of a single teenage mom in Orangeburg, South Carolina, my grandparents raised me. I knew what it was like to choose between paying the electric bill and putting food on the table. I knew what it was like to eat cereal with water, because we couldn't afford milk. I've dedicated my life to making things just a little bit easier for folks like my grandparents, and I'm going to bring those memories and values with me to my work at the DNC.
We have a lot of work to do in the coming months and years to heal our country, and to build back better. I believe that we can move the DNC into the future by making ourselves accessible to all Americans, and piece by piece we can restore the belief in the promise of America.

We have worked tirelessly to safely blend the inaugural traditions Americans have always known with new and fresh concepts that are sure to keep you busy right where you are.
Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris, and millions of our friends and neighbors nationwide are teaming up for Together We Serve, a national day of action designed to inspire our communities.
Tomorrow, there will be a Memorial to Lives Lost, remembering our loved ones, friends, and neighbors lost to COVID-19 while paying tribute to the strength, courage, and patriotism of the healthcare and frontline workers who have risked their own health to serve those in need.
We even have special Inauguration Day programming planned for children, our attempt to engage and educate young people on the reason for this occasion and why a peaceful transfer of power is so important to our country’s democracy.
As you can see, despite the challenging circumstances, we are continuing to plan events that bring the nation together. My family and I will be joining the National Day of Service today to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s profound legacy. | | | | | Folks,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.” It’s one of his many lessons that endures today, as we’ve seen throughout this pandemic. From sewing masks to dropping off groceries to their elderly neighbors, Americans across the country know that service -- looking out for one another -- is part of who we are as a nation.
It’s why my family and I will be joining the National Day of Service today to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s profound legacy.
We’ve partnered with organizations across the country to organize service events focused on COVID-19 relief efforts -- and we hope you can help by participating in an event in Virginia. Get involved today and commit to serving your country for a better tomorrow.
Consider what your community needs and reach out to your friends to get them involved too. For example, you can collect jackets from your neighbors and drop them off at shelters, fill a virtual shopping cart for a food pantry, or join virtual events to write cards of thanks to first responders.
Service is a fitting way to start to heal, unite, and rebuild this country we love. I hope you’ll join us today on the National Day of Service and make a difference in your communities.
