And they’re hungry for a different kind of politics than what we’ve gotten used to — one where your blood pressure doesn’t spike every time you turn on the TV or log on to social media. There’s a remarkable level of agreement among the American people on the biggest issues. About 2 out of every 3 Americans agree on what the right thing to do is when it comes to health care, wages, affordability, tax fairness, and protecting programs like Social Security and Medicare. The most important thing that Democrats can do right now is to persevere, even in the face of billions of dollars flowing through our political system. We need to keep talking to as many people as possible, including those who don’t normally vote with us. And we need to remind ourselves that we are not powerless, despite what this administration and its donors would have you believe. Emily, our moment of maximum leverage over politicians, over Washington, and over the people in charge right now is 44 days away. And when we come together to exert that leverage, things will start to get better — and not just better than they are right now, but better than they were before. But that outcome is dependent on people like you, doing your part.
