They remind all who have lived through them where they were and what they were doing when our democracy came under assault. Today, I am reflecting on where I was on this day in 2021, as I am sure you are too. I was not only Vice President-elect, I was also a United States senator. I was at the Capitol that morning. Hours later, the gates of the Capitol were breached. I immediately thought about not only my colleagues, but also my staff, who had been forced to seek refuge in our office, converting filing cabinets into barricades. The heroic law enforcement officers who answered the call that day and the American public watching on television from all corners of the nation. On January 6, we all saw what our nation would look like if the forces who seek to dismantle our democracy are successful. The lawlessness, the violence, the chaos. What was at stake then, and now, is the right to have our future decided the way the Constitution prescribes it: by we, the people -- all the people. The stakes of this election are high. The results could determine the survival of our very democracy. So, I have to ask: Will you make an investment today in this campaign so we can continue strengthening our democracy and protecting our personal freedoms for years to come? YES The extremists who roamed the halls of the Capitol were not only targeting the lives of elected leaders. They were assaulting the institutions, values, and ideals that generations of Americans have fought for. That we cannot forget, Emily. We cannot let our future be decided by those bent on silencing our voices, overturning our votes, and peddling lies and misinformation. This threat comes from a radical faction that may be newly resurgent but whose roots run old and deep. The work ahead will not be easy. But we cannot sit on the sidelines. We must unite in defense of our democracy. My vision for America

Is democracy still America's sacred cause?

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  Emily, I have been reflecting. I just visited the grounds of Valley Forge and gave a speech about the future of our democracy. I wanted to share some of my thoughts directly with you. Valley Forge tells the story of the pain, suffering, and true patriotism it took to make America. The mission of Valley Forge -- and questions asked -- are similar to those today. Is democracy still America's sacred cause? This isn't rhetorical, academic, or hypothetical. Whether democracy is still America's sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time. It's what the 2024 election is all about. For me, the choice is clear: Donald Trump's campaign is all about him. It's not about America and not about you. His campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future. He is willing to sacrifice our democracy to put himself in power. Our campaign is different. Our campaign is about all of us. It's about OUR future together. And preserving and strengthening OUR democracy. That's why I am asking you to be a part of it today. Emily, no matter how different our campaigns may be, we cannot forget what is at stake if we do not succeed. Three years ago tomorrow we saw with our own eyes a violent mob storm the United States Capitol. For the first time in our history, insurrectionists had come to stop the peaceful transfer of power in America. All because Donald Trump's lies had brought the mob to Washington. He promised it would be "wild" -- and it was. He told the crowd to fight like hell -- and all hell was unleashed. He promised he would be right with them side-by-side. Then -- as usual -- he left others to do his dirty work. HE retreated to the White House. The entire nation watched in horror. The whole world watched in disbelief. And Trump did nothing. It was among the worst derelictions of duty by a President in American history. An attempt to overturn a free and fair election by force and violence. We can't allow something like it to happen again. We know who Donald Trump is and what he does and we cannot run the risk of him being at the helm of our democracy again. If you agree, rush a $25 contribution to our campaign to help Kamala and me win four more years in the White House. If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: $25 >> $50 >> $100 >> $250 >> $500 >> Other >> Today at Valley Forge, we found ourselves in a new year -- some 246 years later -- just one day before January 6. A date forever seared into our memory because that was the day America nearly lost it all. To think that some 246 years ago, George Washington was at the height of his power having just defeated the most powerful empire on Earth. He could have held onto that power as long as he wanted. But, that wasn't the America he and the American troops of Valley Forge had fought for. In America, our leaders don't hold on to power relentlessly. Our leaders return power to the people -- willingly. You do your duty and serve your country. And ours is a country worthy of service. That's the America I see in our future and I've never been more optimistic in our ability to stay true to that sacred cause. Thank you for being a part of it. "Rot in Hell"

We're asking you to do something that may seem strange: believe Donald Trump.

He's proudly bragging about being the one who "got rid of" Roe v. Wade and has backed a national abortion ban. He said he would be a dictator on "Day One." He promised to seek revenge on his enemies and wrote (in a Christmas Day message!) that those who oppose him should "rot in Hell." Donald Trump is telling us who he is. We should believe him. We need all hands on deck to make sure voters across the country understand the choice in 2024. Will you rush a $1 contribution to our campaign today to reelect Joe Biden and make sure Donald Trump does not become president again? If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: $25 >> $50 >> $100 >> $250 >> $500 >> Other >> Let's be clear about what's at stake. Donald Trump is threatening to dismantle our democracy and promising to take away our hard-fought and fundamental freedoms. Joe Biden is bringing down costs for middle-class families, growing our economy, and making historic progress on climate change. But we know this race is going to be decided by a very close margin. Which is why your support for President Biden matters so much as we kick off 2024: Show President Biden you stand with him against this extremist threat to our democracy.
