Emily, I know the day-to-day chaos we're all experiencing under a second Trump administration is frustrating and exhausting. I know it might be tempting to tune out completely, but I'm personally asking you to stay in this fight. Here's why: What we're seeing in this administration is the worst reverse Robin Hood that we could have imagined, where we have the wealthiest people in the world doing everything they can every single day to rip away hard-fought protections that Democrats achieved in the first place. So we have to continue to tell the truth, and we have to be aggressive about communicating to the American people what we have done and what we stand for. And most of all we need to elect Democrats at the local level right now that can act as a check against Trump and Republicans' disastrous policies. What happens in each of our communities has a huge impact. To win again nationally, Democrats must win down the ballot, too. And that's where I'm asking for your help. Three weeks ago, Trump signed an executive order claiming that he gets to decide how independent agencies like the Federal Election Commission (FEC) interpret the law. The FEC, which Congress created after Watergate to regulate how money is raised and spent in federal elections, was designed to be bipartisan and insulated from the political whims of the White House. In this country, we are guaranteed fair elections with impartial referees — not a system where Trump can hand down his preferred campaign rules from his perch in the White House. This executive order is a grave threat to this guarantee. The DNC is fighting back. Alongside the DCCC and DSCC, we've filed a lawsuit against Trump to stop his hostile takeover of the FEC. For the future of our democracy, it's absolutely critical that we not cede the institutions that safeguard our elections to Trump and his MAGA Republican allies. | Emily, This is a longer email, but I hope you'll take a few minutes to read it. I want to take a moment to share a bit more of my story with you, why I ran for DNC Chair, and why I'm hoping to earn your investment in our Party as we rebuild after a tough election cycle. I am the first son of a single mom who had me when she was 15 years old, and who was raising four kids by the time she was 20. We were in and out of shelters, and we knew what poverty felt like. We saw what my mom sacrificed to make sure we could have a warm dinner most nights. Because my mom gave a damn about us, and because my community gave a damn about our family, it meant we had a chance. I ended up being the first kid in my family to go to college and get a degree. I got involved in politics because I believe our government should give a damn, too. Too many people view politics as a sport – something that's just about winning or losing. But to me, and to millions of families, this is personal. Whether we win or lose has a real impact on people's lives. Just look at what we're seeing right now: Donald Trump is openly coming after public schools and child care. He's going after nursing homes and community health clinics and farmers. His policies are raising prices for millions of people, on necessities like food and gas, and doing nothing to help working families. If Donald Trump were president when I was a kid, I wouldn't be here today. All of what he is doing has a real impact on people — and it's why it's more important than ever that we elect as many Democrats as possible, all over the country, who are willing to stand up and check Trump's power in any way they can. That's my vision for our Party: organizing against Trump and his allies' harmful agenda, competing in every ZIP code, and building the long-term party infrastructure we'll need to elect Democrats everywhere.
